Company History

ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION was started in 1955 by Karl English of Bloomington, IN as a non-union general contracting company specializing in residential/commercial construction and was operated under the name of KARL ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION. By the time Karl retired in 1979, he and his employees had built over 500 new homes in and around the Bloomington area. That's not including the wide variety of other projects that were undertaken such as remodeling jobs, barns, churches, commercial buildings, etc. Karl had also built a reputation in this area of providing consistent, quality workmanship as well as the use of all quality materials.

When Karl retired in 1979, he sold his construction company to his eldest son, Howard English, who already owned and operated his own company--a union electrical contracting company called M & H ELECTRIC, INC., which Howard started and incorporation in November of 1972. At the time of incorporation the only Stockholders were Howard and his wife, Margaret, with equal 50% ownership. Howard's daughter, Donetta J. Held, for the corporation in 1978.

After Howard bought his father's construction company in 1979, the company name was changed to ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION. In 1983, Donetta was brought into the corporation as a shareholder and was elected as President. In 1999, ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION was incorporated. The legal name of the corporation now reads, ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION, INC. In January 2002, Howard sold ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION to his daughter Donetta J. Held. Howard still works as a part-time estimator.

ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION, INC. operates in the same manner as the founder, Karl English, by continuing to provide the same quality workmanship and materials. ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION, INC. performs a variety of projects including all types of remodeling, repair and new construction work from residential to commercial and industrial. ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION, INC. has performed work on all sizes of projects from small jobs such as simple door and window replacements to commercial and government projects with a contract in excess of $746,000. Since 1984, ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION, INC. has been specializing in rapid insurance repairs, offering complete restoration and cleaning services from WATER, ODOR, FIRE, WIND, and STORM damage. From water extraction and structural drying to restoration repairs, ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION does it ALL! In July, 2002 we now offer BIO CLEANING services and have a website dedicated to those services.

All of the personnel of ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION, INC. is dedicated to serving the customer's needs.
